My name is Mariam. I’m a Muslim American raised in Boardman, Ohio and Orlando, Florida. I graduated from the University of Central Florida (Orlando, Fl.) in 2006 with a degree in English Education and currently teach at an Islamic school. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with amazing kids in my teaching career, and many others in the community, including taking a small group of students from Orlando to MIST (Muslim Interscholastic Tournament) to the regional Southeast competition in Atlanta, GA. I’ve been involved in organizing Islamic classes, from AlMaghrib and Bayyinah Institutes. Currently I’m working with some friends to start a local youth group. I’ve also worked with local and national community members on Barack Obama’s presidental compaign.
